In the deepest ocean, in the darkness and under huge pressure, you might think life is scarce. But you'd be wrong. The deep sea is one of the least explored areas on the planet, yet many strange and wonderful creatures live in this extreme environment.
We are delighted to have the British Museum joining the Janet Content Providers in the new year. Their first session will be on Thursday 9th January 2014. It is entitled Treasure challenge video conference. There are two sessions, from 10:30-12pm and from 12:30 to 2pm. Advanced bookings are now being taken for this exciting event, which is designed for Key Stage 2 students. The students work through the real challenges faced by archeologists, scientists and museum staff.
Give your students the opportunity to engage with real scientists and be inspired by life in the field with a free programme of video conference events and live chats. Students will discover what it’s like to perform cutting-edge research in Borneo, one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet.
Appropriate for Key Stages 2,3 and 4.
Message posted on behalf of Heather Hadfield:
Hi All,
I am looking for a UK Reception or Yr1 class who would like to link up over VC to the same aged class in the US (Texas State).
The teacher in the US would like to make this a regular partnership connecting either every week or every two weeks. They have a Tandberg room system and would ideally like to VC with a school with a similar set up.
If you are interested in taking part, please contact me.
Thanks.
Regards
Heather

A year ago, a school in Le Cateau Cambrenesis France contacted us asking if we would like to do a video conference with them. They had particularly sought a school in Shrewsbury because it is where the poet Wilfred Owen was born and they are from the town where Wilfred Owen died.
A case study about Shrewsbury Sixth Form College's use of videoconferencing has been published at this link:

Read more about their participation in the Barclays Retail Development Program arranged by Virtually University, one of Janet's Content Providers.
Find out also about how videoconferenicng with a school in France led to a class visit to France for Remembrance Day in 2012.
The Videoconferencing Schools Project (VCSP) list is a way of keeping schools informed about videoconferencing events, new upcoming sessions, etc.
If you are not already on the list and you wish to be added, you can send an email to Phyllis Callinan. If you wish to be removed from the list I can do that too.
Lord Puttnam, the NHS, Oaks Park High School and Sheffield Hallam University spoke at the Bett Show 2013 about their use of videoconferencing. Janet VC services linked Mina Patel's Videoconferencing for Learning (VCfL) to the Excel Centre.
