New November VC sessions from Virtually University

Three new Videoconferencing sessions from Virtually University

Virtually University is offering 3 further videoconferences in November from Bristol, Newcastle and Birmingham. These sessions are free to schools and suitable for KS5 students and all schools/colleges with interested students are welcome, subject to available places.

Physical Geography: Investigating the 'Lost' World Beneath the Antarctic Ice Sheet by Dr Neil Ross, Newcastle University on 14 November 2013 between 1.15 and 2.15

Year 12 & 13 students can learn about his expedition work discovering the remarkable landscapes and environments existing beneath the vast Antarctic ice sheets.

English Literature: The Rhythms of English Verse by Professor Ad Putter, The University of Bristol on 15 November 2013 between 11.20 and 12.20

Year 12 & 13 students will examine the use of rhythm in poetry, discussing some of the relevant technical terms and then exploring the rhythmical dimensions of Tennyson's poem 'Break, Break, Break'.

Politics: Is This the End of Politics? by Dr Peter Kerr, The University of Birmingham on 26 November 2013 between 12.30 and 1.30

(Year 12 & 13) In this seminar, Peter will look at the reasons why people are ‘switching off’ from politics as well as the rise in new forms of political participation such as protests and internet politics. He asks whether we are seeing ‘the end of politics’ as we know it.
