Megaconference Junior is a project designed to give students in primary through secondary schools around the world the opportunity to communicate, collaborate and contribute to each other's learning in real time, using advanced multi-point video conferencing technology.
Planning for Megaconference Junior 2013 starts on 30 October. This will be the 10th anniversary event and it will be held in May 2013 - date to be decided. Their web site is currently undergoing maintenance and I'll post its URL once its up and running again.
At the end of last year we ran an excellent English Literature & Language session from Sheffield which became a little lost in the end of term and so we're delighted to be able to offer it again at 11.20 on 3rd October.
Adam Smith will introduce analytical skills central to university study by exploring an Eighteenth Century text with students. He will also describe his route to his current PhD studies and impart his irrepressible passion for understanding the historical context of English works.
The Videoconferencing Schools Project (VCSP) list is a way of keeping schools informed about videoconferencing events, new upcoming sessions, etc.
If you are not already on the list and you wish to be added, you can send an email to Phyllis Callinan. If you wish to be removed from the list I can do that too.
If you're not already aware of the National STEM Centre, you may be interested to know that they provide lots of useful resources in the E-library on their web site at:

Items can be found according to age range or subject.
Message posted on behalf of Heather Hadfield:
Hi All,
I am looking for a UK Reception or Yr1 class who would like to link up over VC to the same aged class in the US (Texas State).
The teacher in the US would like to make this a regular partnership connecting either every week or every two weeks. They have a Tandberg room system and would ideally like to VC with a school with a similar set up.
If you are interested in taking part, please contact me.
Thanks.
Regards
Heather

Upcoming sessions from Virtually University include:
Biology: Dr Cranium's Crazy Nervous System: An interactive lecture into the brain and it's twelve cranial nerves by Adam Holder, The University of Sheffield on 19th November 2012 between 11.30 and 12.30
Through the use of videoconferencing, Virtually University, a Janet Content Provider, has helped Shrewsbury Sixth Form students to aim higher. Students have been able to participate in lectures that might not otherwise have been posible.
For more details click here.
A year ago, a school in Le Cateau Cambrenesis France contacted us asking if we would like to do a video conference with them. They had particularly sought a school in Shrewsbury because it is where the poet Wilfred Owen was born and they are from the town where Wilfred Owen died.
As you may know Virtually University sets up videoconferences between schools and universities around the country which are designed to inform and inspire young people's choices of Higher Education.
We are currently planning an English Language/English Literature session with The University of Liverpool for Year 12 students and they are very keen to work with inner city schools. These schools can be anywhere in the UK and the session, which will combine skills and subject development, will be devised based on conversations with interested schools.
We have 3 forthcoming VU videoconferences taking place this term. Each will be delivered by PhD students representing Sheffield and Birmingham.
The first is taking place at 11.20 on 27th June. Continuing our English Literature & Language theme this term, Adam Smith from The University of Sheffield, will explore a relatively unknown Eighteenth Century text to introduce Year 12 students to the skills necessary for studying English at university level.
