Through the use of videoconferencing, Virtually University, a Janet Content Provider, has helped Shrewsbury Sixth Form students to aim higher. Students have been able to participate in lectures that might not otherwise have been posible.

We have 3 forthcoming VU videoconferences taking place this term. Each will be delivered by PhD students representing Sheffield and Birmingham.
The first is taking place at 11.20 on 27th June. Continuing our English Literature & Language theme this term, Adam Smith from The University of Sheffield, will explore a relatively unknown Eighteenth Century text to introduce Year 12 students to the skills necessary for studying English at university level.

Message posted on behalf of Heather Hadfield:
Hi All,
I am looking for a UK Reception or Yr1 class who would like to link up over VC to the same aged class in the US (Texas State).
The teacher in the US would like to make this a regular partnership connecting either every week or every two weeks. They have a Tandberg room system and would ideally like to VC with a school with a similar set up.
If you are interested in taking part, please contact me.
Thanks.
Regards
Heather

Upcoming sessions from Virtually University include:
Biology: Dr Cranium's Crazy Nervous System: An interactive lecture into the brain and it's twelve cranial nerves by Adam Holder, The University of Sheffield on 19th November 2012 between 11.30 and 12.30
A year ago, a school in Le Cateau Cambrenesis France contacted us asking if we would like to do a video conference with them. They had particularly sought a school in Shrewsbury because it is where the poet Wilfred Owen was born and they are from the town where Wilfred Owen died.
As you may know Virtually University sets up videoconferences between schools and universities around the country which are designed to inform and inspire young people's choices of Higher Education.
We are currently planning an English Language/English Literature session with The University of Liverpool for Year 12 students and they are very keen to work with inner city schools. These schools can be anywhere in the UK and the session, which will combine skills and subject development, will be devised based on conversations with interested schools.
Places available on our Virtually University videoconferences taking place this term:
English Literature & Language (Year 12),
Art History (KS4 enrichment session), and
Ancient History (Year 12).
Each session will be delivered by PhD students representing Sheffield and Birmingham.
The videoconferences are free to schools and sessions targeted at Year 12s are also open to KS4 gifted and talented students.
