This example assumes that the ECS has been installed, access has been gained and a password has been set. Where an option is not mentioned it can be ignored or left unchecked. The following configuration is for a session that sets up a Cisco® router as a gatekeeper and H.323 proxy. It is minimally commented, so for further explanation please refer to the Cisco® information in Cisco Multimedia Conference Manager. In this example, a single physical port has been used between the endpoint and the college’s site access router. The commands would have to be altered slightly in a different topology.

The ECS (Enhanced Communications Server) is dedicated software that offers a gatekeeper and a number of additional associated services, such as logging and billing. Testing was carried out using ECS version 3.2.2. Check the documentation for the version you are supplied with for system hardware and software requirements. ECS installation The software can be downloaded to the Windows® desktop of the host machine – it may also be supplied on a CD. The test PC was a Windows® 2000 Professional system.

Irrespective of the particular gatekeeper that is used, the same generic tasks need to be performed for every configuration. These are summarised here, but please note that they are not necessarily done in the same order for every configuration, and the details may vary.
