This is the regional group for Janet customers in the South West of England seeking information about Janet connectivity in their region, support, services and contact information.

Using Free Network Tools

28, 30 July, 1, 8, 15 & 20 August – Live Online Course

Over 6 sessions, this online course covers the basics of Network Sniffing, from configuring networking devices to enable sniffing to occur, through to interpreting the output of the Wireshark tool. It will also explore alternative tools that can be used to support network-based investigations.

The SWERN user group meets 3 times a year and alternates the location for the meetings between Exeter and Bristol. The group has an active membership and meetings are well attended by representatives from FE, HE and other Janet connected sites in the region. The meetings usually start at 10.45am and stop at 1pm when lunch is provided. In the afternoon session which usually starts at 2pm, a presentation is normally given, either by a commercial supplier with a product of interest to the group or one of the community.

SWERN Disengagement programme
 
The supplier has now delivered the core infrastructure and site connections for the new South West regional network. The new regional network infrastructure has been made ready for service and customers can now be migrated from the SWERN network. Janet are in the process of making contact with each customer regarding a migration window and will also outline any relevant technical information.

Janet Telephony Procurement

Janet is in the process of creating a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS)

to enable Janet customers to purchase telephony services mobile

telephony services, ISDN circuits and associated equipment. The DPS is

centred around using Janet to deliver telephony traffic in the form of

SIP trunks, however it will also include handsets and customer premise

The Janet south west regional network was migrated to the new Janet 6 core on the 31st July. There was no disruption to service, or down time and the Janet South West regional network is now connected to the fastest National Research and Education Network in the world. This will give Janet the expandability to be able to meet user requirements for the next 10 years and beyond.
