HEGlobal in partnership with Jisc will be running a half day workshop in March to look at the technological aspects of delivering TNE.
Read how Jisc, working in partnership with ORIENTplus, GÉANT and the Chinese National Research and Education Network (CERNET) sucessfully resolved technological challenges for Queen Mary University of London's TNE partnership with the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, resulting in a better quality and reliable service for students.
In January 2015, Jisc published a report 'An early-warning system for TNE - Understanding the future global network connectivity
and service needs of UK higher education' which was led by the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education during 2014. We are pleased to be able to publish the summary version of the Report, and hope that this will be a useful observation both for International and IT Offices; Jisc will be taking forward the recommendations in the report as a priority in 2015.
BBC Article today (16 December 2014) on universities 'soft power' i.e. overseas activities and the benefits to UK Plc that fits well with TNE activities.
"Universities are now a "crucial" part of the UK's "soft power" in projecting international influence, says former foreign secretary William Hague. Their recruitment of overseas students "enriches and strengthens our universities and our future economy and our influence in the world", he said….

Yesterday, two substantial pieces of work by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) were published on TNE, reinforcing the government and sector support for international activities.
Janet and Heriot Watt have been working in close collaboration to connect their Malaysian campus, just outside Kuala Lumpar, ready for their first intake of students in September 2014. This has been sucessfully achieved in the last few weeks utilising Telecom Malaysia, who Janet have also established good working and contractual relationships with for the benefit of the sector.
