As you are probably aware, the network managed and maintained by LeNSE on behalf of Janet will be transferred to Janet’s management at the end of September 2012. This transfer will not affect your existing service and is part of Janet’s change to the regional delivery model.
Reprocurement of the Janet South network is in progress. A Statement of Requirements for a core network and access circuits was issued to suppliers on the Janet Telecoms Framework on 21st November 2012. Responses are to be received by 18th January 2013 and a contract is expected to be placed with one supplier by 22nd February. The new network is expected to be ready for handover in October 2013 and customers will be migrated by March 2014.
Until a replacement network infrastructure is procured and deployed by Janet, day-to-day operation of the IP network will remain with Alcatel-Lucent. You should continue to report faults to the Alcatel-Lucent service desk on Tel: 01793 775 630 or email janetgnoc@alcatel‐lucent.com.
You will recall that Janet is bringing the regional networks back ‘in house’ to be managed and maintained by Janet staff. The LeNSE network was transferred to Janet in October 2012 with a view to re-procure the network in 2014. Due to increasing demands in bandwidth, Janet took the decision to re-procure the network early.
