The following configuration is for a session that sets up a Cisco® router as a gatekeeper and H.323 proxy. It is minimally commented, so for further explanation please refer to the Cisco® information in Section 7. In this example, a single physical port has been used between the endpoint and the college’s site access router. The commands would have to be altered slightly in a different topology.

It is expected that the configuration will be carried out by personnel with experience of configuring Cisco® routers, so many commands that are not relevant to gatekeeper/proxy set-up have not been included in this summary (although these would be necessary for full and secure functionality of the router).
Plug the network cable (100Mbit/s Full Duplex recommended) into an interface. This is normally called interface fastethernet0/0 or fastethernet0/1. The configuration of the interface is dependent on which interface you plug your cable into. This example has the cable plugged into interface 0/1.

Log in to the router and enter en to enable command mode. Enter conf term to get in to configuration mode (and later, CTRL Z to exit the configuration mode once completed). When finished all configuration enter CTRL Z and write mem to save the configuration. If at any time you are unsure as to which command to enter, options can be found by entering a question mark. This configuration example includes some commands that are necessary if starting from scratch with a new router. Those necessary for gatekeeper and/or H.323 proxy configuration (which are discussed in Section 7) are in bold. This script is designed so that with minimal editing, it can be copied straight into the router. Comments are preceded by an ! exclamation mark.
