Guidance Material for Procurement
When Regional Network and Campus Network Operators procure their equipment it is essential that support for IPv6 is stated as a mandatory requirement within the invitation to tender (ITT) document. Below are some statements which can be used when producing the ITT:
Request for the description of the service
IPv6
Please describe how IPv6 is implemented on your router. What features, or functionality of the router if any, are unavailable using IPv6 when compared to IPv4, other than differences directly related to the protocols? If IPv6 is not currently available, please indicate when it will be released.
IP Multicast
Please describe how IP multicasting is supported on your router. Summarise the IP multicasting protocols that are currently offered and any that may be in development. Please indicate timescales for the expected release of new multicast features. Is multicasting supported for both IPv4 and IPv6?
Operational Requirements
Information Requirement: The supplier shall state whether any type of interface restricts or limits the features supported by the router. Are particular features (QoS, multicast, IPv6 Access Control Lists etc.) restricted to or limited by particular interfaces?
