A third option is “Continual Presence” where the picture is segmented to show images of each site continuously, with the sound being voice switched. With continual presence it is important to appreciate that the greater the number of sites and the smaller their individual images the less easy it is to recognise anything meaningful on the viewing screen. It does depend on viewing distance etc. but generally, continual presence is unworkable for more than four sites. Vscene Desktop currently has an upper limit of 9 sites visible in continual presence mode, there may be more participants but only 9 will be visible simultaneously.
