Virtually University
Virtually University is a videoconferencing outreach initiative set up in 2004 by Bedford School with the University of Sheffield and the Sutton Trust.
Virtually University coordinates interactive videoconferencing between schools and universities around the country. With some exceptions, the content is targeted at Year 12 and 13. Some sessions relate directly to the A level syllabus whilst others are intended to show the diversity of study available at university. All are designed to inspire and allow students to make informed choices. Additionally some sessions will discuss practical aspects of applying for university and of student life. All are free to schools.
For Science week we are continuing our Becoming Series of videoconferences on 20th March. These sessions are free to schools to take part in.
The series is designed to introduce KS4 students to early career scientists who will talk about their route into the sciences and will address students' possible preconceptions relating to perceived ability and the accessibility of study and careers in the sciences.
Holly Holmes, an Imaging Scientist at UCL, will talk about her personal journey via a Chemistry degree and her research which now focuses on the treatment of Alzheimer's:
Imaging Science: Becoming an Imaging Scientist by Holly Holmes, University College London on 20th March 2014 between 14.00 and 15.00
