Home and away
Although only the 2nd October, this month is already turning into a a very busy time for AIM related activities and news. As I'm typing this I am listening to the live stream from the VAMP/FIM4R/REFEDs meeting and wishing I was in Espoo. If, like me, you haven't made it to Finland you can catch up with what's happening at https://connect.funet.fi/vamp or by following #REFEDS and #FIM4R on Twitter. My colleague Andrew Cormack has also written about a couple of the sessions: https://community.ja.net/blogs/regulatory-developments/article/how-much-complexity-should-we-see
Closer to home, Janet has just published Janet News 22 (https://www.ja.net/about-janet/news/janet-news-issue-22), which contains a number of AIM related articles:
- Page 7 announces a new strategic agreement with Microsoft that among other things includes "investigation of the development and implementation of common projects such as authentication and authorisation" - we're currently having some very interesting Moonshot discussions
- Page 13 introduces Janet Training's new approach to training - 'Live online learning' and teases that we are working on a number of live learning courses including eduroam, freeRADIUS and Moonshot
- Page 22 provides an update to the AIM review that was mentioned in Issue 20 of Janet News
- Page 32 discusses key technologies that you should be watching that include eduroam and Moonshot
- Finally, the Events and Training calendars on pages 36-37 list the Moonshot pilot meeting on 16 October and various Shibboleth and eduroam training courses planned for the next 2 months.
Yesterday the first consultation on the new Jisc AIM Strategy and Plan closed, so we will be incorporating feedback into a revised version that will be published in the next few weeks. Thanks to those who provided feedback and if you have any other comments, please let me know at john.chapman@ja.net.
Other meetings this month include the GEANT Symposium where eduGAIN and Moonshot will be discussed, followed by the Moonshot Developers' meeting at the University of Warwick.
Next month will also be busy, so stay tuned for an update from the Internet2 / InCommon Identity Week (which includes the REFEDS Fall Meeting) and IETF 88.
