Super Hi-Vision

Janet have been working on a project with the BBC to stream Super Hi-Vision on a national and international scale. Viewing screens have been placed in London, Bradford and Glasgow which allow the public to view this amazing technology. Internationally, streams are also being sent over Janet towards Washington DC and several sites in Japan, using other national research and education networks (including Geant, Internet2 and GEMNet)

Just a few technical details to supplement Emma's overview:
The streams are 350Mbps, and are encoded and encrypted in NHK's SHV format. They also use "Super Forward Error Correction" to account for any packet loss on the networks. (not needed for Janet but still...) . The FEC can provide a perfect picture with up to 10% packet loss!!
The technology is very, very new, but NHK are pushing their development hard. There is a limited amount of hardware in the world, which is currently all in London for the Olympics. There are only 3 working cameras and around 6 projectors.
