Much of the required behaviour can be achieved by configuring your mail software. The details vary considerably between products and you should consult the product documentation or present your requirements very carefully to any contractors managing your mailers. It is unfortunate that in many cases the default behaviour (the way the software works as delivered or following a standard installation, upgrade or patch) is to openly relay, so you should check after making any changes.

Below is a copy of the email that the Certificate Requester will send to the school. For security reasons, the email must contain the .sch.uk domain registered to the same school. For the school to provide permission for the LA/RBC to request a certificate on their behalf, the email receipient will have to click on a link in the email, which will take them to a web page on the Janet Certificate Service portal. The page will display a list of any domains that are contained within the CSR.

Organisations eligible for the Janet Certificate Service are: 1. Organisations in receipt of a Primary Connection to Janet network; or 2. Local or Unitary Authorities connected to the National Education Network in England (either directly or via a Regional Broadband Consortium); or to the Scottish Schools Digital Network in Scotland; or to the Lifelong Learning Network in Wales; or to Classroom 2000 in Northern Ireland.

1.  Definitions and Interpretation 1.1 The following definitions will apply to these Terms and Conditions. Application Users: means the individuals appointed by the Organisation to use the Certificate Service, who are authorised to request certificates on behalf of the Organisation. Certificates: means the SSL certificate or certificates signed by QuoVadis and issued by Jisc to the Organisation and its users, including Organisation/Business Validated (OV), Extended Validation (EV) and End User certificates.
