Trevor Peacock reported back from the Improvers session as follows:
There was a lot of interest when I mentioned the resources available on the ICO’s website. In particular, the ‘motivated intruder test’. If you’re planning to send participants a follow-up with some resources, I’ve listed a couple of useful ones below:
Here’s the ICO’s guidance on deciding if data is ‘personal data’. Head to p7 where there’s a decision process with advice you can follow:
http://ico.org.uk/for_organisations/guidance_index/~/media/documents/library/Data_Protection/Detailed_specialist_guides/PERSONAL_DATA_FLOWCHART_V1_WITH_PREFACE001.ashx
Here’s the ICO’s guidelines on anonymisation. This includes the ‘motivated intruder test’ (p22) which helps decide the risk of disclosure if data fell into the wrong hands:
http://ico.org.uk/for_organisations/data_protection/topic_guides/~/media/documents/library/Data_Protection/Practical_application/anonymisation-codev2.pdf
You can order hard copies of many of the ICO’s publications from here:
