eduroam in the NHS - please vote by 27th Feb!

24 October 2013 at 3:16pm

There is a chance that the use of eduroam by NHS organisations might be included in the NHS Interoperability Toolkit if it gets enough votes:

The use of eduroam by NHS organisations in their own right is something that was initially hoped to be achieved through the N3 Janet Gateway Phase II project and it is still hoped that might be possible in the future.

In the meantime if an NHS organisation has an internet connection separate from the one provided from N3 then there is nothing to stop that NHS organisation signing up for eduroam now in support for research and education. This is in addition to existing initiatives to extend the footprint of University provided eduroam in to NHS wireless networks. See more here.

On this basis eduroam has been suggested for inclusion in the Department of Health managed NHS Interoperability Toolkit (ITK) following their call for suggestions of new ITK themes.

The following has been received from the ITK team:

"We received a large number of interesting and innovative submissions which we have now published here.

[MT note- eduroam is towards the bottom in Technology Enhancements described as “ Deliver secure, open access to the internet at any NHS site"]

We would now like to invite you to vote for the themes you think would deliver the greatest benefits and of these, which ones you would expect to deploy into your systems in the next 18 months.

Voting starts on Wednesday 13th February and will run until COB on Wednesday 27th February 2013

Unfortunately, we will be unable to develop every new theme in the next release, but we will keep the 'long list' open and still welcome any new suggestions."

PLEASE VOTE IF YOU CAN - votes can be made by anyone although it does ask for name and organisation so that they can analyse the interest by communities.
