Network Technology & Infrastructure community groups
This is the High Throughput special interest group on line group. Network performance problems may cause issues to scientists and network operators alike. Throughput problems can be caused by many factors - including infrastructure, hosts, applications. Researchers that encounter network problems sometimes can use this resource to facilitate troubleshooting, tuning and get general advice from the community.
This group is for those interested in Information Governance in the schools sector within the South East of England. An initial workshop took place in July 2012 at SEGfL and it is hoped this group will provide the facility to continue sharing experiences and passing on knowledge in this area.
This community group is created for networking staff to discuss issues and problems related to network connectivity between their UK campus and overseas campus.
Why is IPv6 important?
Put simply, it is no longer possible for the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) to allocate new network addresses under the old protocol running the Internet, IPv4. This does not mean the Internet itself is running out. It does however limit the applicability of all new installations. Many organisations have existing reserves of IPv4 space but the time will come when no new addresses can be assigned. Adoption of IPv6 needs to happen to allow the Internet...
“Janet Connected” is a new initiative to allow commercial organisations to connect to Janet for the effective and efficient delivery of network services to our community.
Commercial partners can expect that a direct, physical connection to the core of the Janet network will give them a preferred position to their commercial offering for the Janet community, and delivers the critical mass to help make delivery cost-effective. This will also be aligned to the “...
Increasingly, research and education communities are seeking to run high performance networking applications across the Janet infrastructure, such as high bandwidth, real-time media or data streaming, low latency haptic applications, or bulk transfers of research data in the order of Terabytes or more.
The Janet End-to-End Performance Initiative (e2epi) group has been created to facilitate sharing and discussion of information and topics related to end-to-end network...
