Janet, at the forefront of technology

The London 2012 Olympic Games will be showcasing the use of new technology in practice, marking the first truly digital Games in the UK. From 23 July to 12 August Janet will be enabling the BBC and NHK to use the Janet network to broadcast key moments of the Games in Super Hi-Vision at various locations the UK, and around the world.

The Janet network also means the BBC is able to stream the events at locations in London, Bradford and Glasgow in a series of public screenings in the UK. At the same time, the high bandwidth stream will be simultaneously transmitted around the world, in easterly and westerly directions. International Research and Education Networks are working with Janet to ensure that the Super Hi-Vision stream can be broadcast to live sites in Japan and Washington DC, USA during the games.
