During 2013, Jisc distributed a call for proposals from UK sites who were looking to undertake some innovative projects using technolgies within the arts. Jisc selected 3 projects, and provided funding in the region of £10,000 to each project. The projects were as follows:

A new version of LOLA has been released - LOLA v1.4.0
The new version has the following new features:
A new version of LOLA has just been released, which I’m sure will be of interest to you all. The most significant thing is that they have been working on reducing the bandwidth needed to run LOLA. The new version - LOLA v1.3.0 has the following new features:
- new video rendering features:
- free stretch/zoom with fixed aspect ratio;
- remote video window can be duplicated and zoomed differently;
- new pixel interpolation techniques to render zoom in better quality;
- some preconfigured basic layouts for video windows;

DVTS:
The Digital Video Transport System (DVTS), is a free and simple piece of software which allows high quality audio and video to be streamed over IP networks. It uses 30Mbs uncompressed audio and video, and is ideal to use for distance learning such as masterclasses.

Conference XP is an open source platform, which provides conferencing and collaboration over IP networks. CXP is ideal for distance learning, using broadcast quality audio and video.

For those in the education sector working with audio, EchoDamp is a freely available piece of software designed to audio mixing and echo control. Designed for both Mac and PC it aims to prevent echo without altering or limiting the audio frequency range. This allows for much better audio quality whilst using a range of software (such as DVTS, Conference XP etc).
Janet has now created the Arts and Humanities Special Interest Group for all those within the community that want to share ideas and network with their peers. Anyone interested in future collaborations, and/or relevant technologies is welcome to join this group.
The group will aim to meet face to face annually, and will help Janet with any future projects in this area.
