Group administrators:
Happy New Year, etc.

Once a month at Janet we have a company meeting during which different people from different parts of the company are invited to speak about their particular area of expertise. Having worked at Janet for over 10 years I’d somehow managed to avoid this duty, until today. It was my turn to give an update on the Janet6 project, something I should clearly know a bit about, and this is the subject of this week’s photo. More relevant to the Janet community is that the talk I gave today is a vastly scaled down version of what you’ll be able to hear about at Networkshop this year (see below). As well as presentations from members of the Janet team working on the project, we’re lucky enough to have secured the services of members of the SSET and Ciena project teams we’ve been working with, so there’ll be plenty to hear about from a variety of perspectives.
In terms of project progress and milestones, this week is a relatively quiet one and has been spent dealing with minor issues that have arisen as a result of Ciena having started their equipment deployment. Next week will be different; 23rd January sees SSET issuing us with acceptance documentation for the fibre and PoPs that make up the core of the network. From that point it will be a couple of weeks of assessing and reviewing the documentation, all leading up to formal acceptance in early February. This formal acceptance will constitute a major milestone having been reached, slightly ahead of the planned deadline of 21st February. When managing a project with timescales as aggressive as they are for Janet6, this is good news. Following that will be completion and formal acceptance of the regional fibre infrastructure, as well as continued progress in deploying ciena kit across the network.
You can hear much more about the Janet6 project at Networkshop41 at the University of Keele this year:
