Escaped the office again...
Sat in the bar of a dual-carriageway stained Norwich hotel, trying to digest the bland tasteless chilli con carne they had on offer (note to chef: more chilli powder does not equal more taste), nothing much to do other than catch up on emails and ask the barman no less than 4 times to put football on the TV, I may as well do a quick blog update.
Today I’ve been to the Wellcome Trust Hinxton Campus, this is one of the Strategic Research Facilities we’re delivering fibre to courtesy of the e-Infrastructure funding we’ve received. The purpose of today’s visit was varied – a meeting with our networking contact at the site to discuss the general plan for delivery and connectivity of the fibre infrastructure we’re putting in place; a visit to the comms room location where the Ciena DWDM equipment will be located; a site survey by colleagues from SSET to identify the specific routes to be used, and the practicalities involved in delivering fibre to the site.
The photo is of the chamber on the site where SSET fibre will join the campus duct infrastructure, and a view of the route the ducting takes into the building that houses the comms room. Fascinating stuff.
Tomorrow sees a similar exercise taking place at the University of East Anglia and at Norwich Research Park, so brace yourselves for more excitement!
