The European Commission published the 2017 update of its Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI); ISP Review reported that the UK had dropped to seventh place in the rankings, which provide an overview of the performance of the 28 EU Member States in a wide range of areas including connectivity and digital skills and the digitisation of businesses and public services

As part of its Budget 2017 announcements earlier this month the Government published its 5G Strategy, setting out "steps for the UK to become a world leader in the next wave of mobile technology and services".

Ofcom announced this morning that BT has agreed to its requirements for the legal separation of Openreach, its network division (more background on this here).

The Government has published a new Digital Strategy intended to support Britain’s digital economy (press release here, also see Culture Secretary Karen Bradley’s launch speech).

Euractiv reported that the European Commission is to urge EU member states and the private sector to get more involved in the development of 5G, suggesting that European industries need to move faster in testing and deploying 5G capabilities.
