Out-Law reported that new European rules on the portability of online content services will come into effect on 20th March 2018.
12th July 2017 was a day of action to protest against plans to repeal net neutrality rules introduced under the Obama administration in the US.

Ofcom announced that later this year a new auction of 190MHz of spectrum will get underway, 40MHz of which is in the 2.3GHz band with the remainder in the 3.4GHz band. The 2.3GHz band is already supported by mobile devices so this spectrum could be utilised immediately to provide faster mobile broadband speeds. The 3.4GHz band is expected to be central to the rollout of 5G mobile across Europe.

Ofcom published a report to the European Commission on its approach to monitoring and ensuring compliance with European regulations on open internet access from May 2016 to April 2017. Ofcom found that “there are no major concerns regarding the openness of the internet in the UK” but also identified that there are “some areas that require improvement in ISP compliance with the Regulation.
The Council of the European Union voted to adopt new rules on the cross-border portability of online content services (such as music, film and TV services and apps). The new rules are intended to provide a high level of protection and legal certainty to European consumers, in particular when buying cross-border as well as to make it easier for businesses, especially SMEs, to sell EU-wide.
