eduroam(UK) Support Server Update - October 2012
More information presented on the Nagios LG service status page
In response to popular demand we've made a change to what eduroam technical administrators see on the Nagios partipants service monitor web page (and to the URL).
Rather than just seeing the service status and service issues for your own site, you can now see the status of all participating organisations' eduroam services. This should help problem investigations.
The URL of the Nagios LG page for all sites is: https://support.roaming.ja.net/?q=nagioslg
If you wish to just see the status details for your own organisation we'd suggest you import a copy of the Nagios LG (eg via a script) and parse it for your organisation-specific lines.
Nb. The content of the Nagios LG page on eduroam(UK) Support is not visible to general users - this is because Support server reserved for use by eduroam service tech admins only and because the information presented is not in a form that can be readily interpreted by the general user.
NAPTR records lookup check on service configuration page
Second new feature: your service configuration page now presents the results of a DNS check for NAPTR records for your realm.
We've recently slipped in a 'Minor Issues' alert for NAPTR records content for your realm. As per the eduroam(UK) Service Advisory of 3/10/12 https://community.ja.net/blogs/eduroam/article/improving-efficiency-international-authentication-supporting-radsec-national in order to improve the performance on international roaming authentication we are using RadSec dynamic discovery between the NRPS and some of our European partner NRENs, enabling the top level European proxy servers to be bypassed and so reducing the number of RADIUS proxy hops required. This only works if your zonefile contains the relevant NAPTR record (allowing discovery of the NRPS servers). This is a recommendation at this time, but we strongly encourage participating organisation to carry out the (simple) DNS update required.
